Driver flees burning car after suspected Gold Coast street race

A car has been destroyed by fire after a suspected street race near a major highway on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Oxenford-Tambourine Road and the Old Pacific Highway just after 4pm to find a silver Holden Commodore well alight.

No one was injured in the incident and it is believed the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze but the Commodore was completely destroyed.
