Dozens of guns seized in NSW bikie crackdown

Police have seized 80 guns and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition in a crackdown on gun owners allegedly linked to bikie gangs or other organised crime groups.

Officers swooped on Wednesday, speaking to 19 gun licence holders, in an operation stretching from south-east NSW north into greater Sydney and the Hunter and further out into the south-west.

Police said the joint operation by the NSW Firearms Registry, State Crime Command's Raptor Squad and the State Intelligence Unit was designed to "revoke firearm licences from those identified as having alleged links to outlaw motorcycle gangs or organised criminal networks".

Raptor Squad commander Detective acting Superintendent Stuart Gordon said it wasn't alleged anyone targeted was involved in criminal activity but the raids were "another reminder of the price of involvement in OCN or OMCGs".

"This operation is all about removing criminals' access to guns – whether lawfully held by other people or not," he said.

Police seized 80 guns and about 30,000 rounds of ammunition, while revoking nine licences and suspending five.

NSW Firearms Registry commander Detective Superintendent Cameron Lindsay said the operation was an important reminder to all gun licence holders that the registry would act to revoke licences "if there's even the slightest risk to the community."

"In the case of many of these identified targets – due to their alleged links to organised crime – their firearm licences and firearms were either revoked or suspended," he said.
