Thieves have targeted a disabled pensioner, stealing his mobility scooter in broad daylight from him home in the Sydney suburb of Roseville.

The 76-year-old has been left stranded and out of pocket trying to cover the cost of a replacement.

Bob Yorston has battled arthritis for 30 years and relies on the motorised scooter to get around.

After a day out with wife Bev, the couple returned home to find they had been robbed.

"You just don't take things from disabled people and make their life more of a misery than it perhaps already is," he said.

While Mr Yorston's insurance will cover the theft of his scooter, he still has to pay the $500 excess, equivalent to about three weeks of his pension.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
