'I miss normal life': Woman who survived crash that killed partner speaks out

The partner of a man killed after an out-of-control driver crashed into the pair misses her “normal life”.

Mardi Trease and Guy Williams were walking their dog on the Monbulk-Seville Road in Wandin East, Melbourne, when they were struck by a car driven by Dillon Buckley.

While Ms Trease sustained significant injuries, Mr Williams, 58, died at the scene.

“He was my partner of nine years, so obviously I liked him very much,” she told 9NEWS today.

“He was an outdoor man.”

With both legs broken, Ms Trease was airlifted to hospital following the December 9 incident.

The 68-year-old spent weeks in rehab, and has only returned home three weeks ago.

“Recovery, in my mind, is slow because I want to get back to normal activities,” the vet and keen horse rider said.

“My legs are in a lot of pain.”

Buckley today appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to culpable driving and negligence causing serious injury.

As he left court, the 27-year-old refused to comment.

While he is banned from driving,  Buckley will remain on bail until his next court appearance in September.

Ms Trease said it will be a long road to a full recovery.

“I miss my normal life, I miss Guy, I miss doing the things that we did together, which was always bushwalking, so I will get back to that I hope - and get back to a normal life.”
