Car trying to pass road train on rural road flung off into bushland

A driver attempting to overtake a ‘road train’ is seen steering around the truck before losing control, colliding with the heavy vehicle and catapulting over a ridge.

The small silver hatchback was captured in dashcam footage, shared by the Facebook group ‘Road Trains Australia’, driving closely behind the fully-laden truck.

It is understood the incident may have occurred outside of Australia.

Despite the road train flashing warning lights, the car was seen to slowly veer off the road – which was beside bushland – and then speed up in an attempt to pass it.

As the vehicle’s tyres hit the unsettled dirt alongside the road, the driver lost control of the car before it turned sharply towards the truck.

The hatchback then collided with the truck underneath the load it was carrying and rebounded back off the road, where it then careered over a ridge and out of sight.

The video, which has since been shared more than 8000 times and viewed by almost 500,000 people, has attracted an outpouring of criticism of the driver with many labelling the person “stupid”.

“Unbelieveable. All because of that… driver’s impatience, they’ve inconvenienced the people who had to stop and make sure they are alright,” one Facebook user said.

“Plus the waste of resources for the time of police, ambulance and the road being closed.

“Why? In a big hurry and couldn’t wait.”
