Aussies report cyber crime every 10 mins

A new online tool allowing Australians to report cyber crime received one complaint every 10 minutes in the first quarter of 2019.

Lieutenant General John Frewen, acting head of the Australian Signals Directorate, told a Senate hearing on Wednesday there had been 13,500 reports to the complaints line.

General Frewen, whose cyber security centre responded to 2164 incidents in the past financial year, said cyber attacks remained a persistent threat.

"Australia continues to be targeted by a range of actors who conduct persistent cyber operations that pose significant threats to Australia's national security and economic prosperity," he said.
