Cue Clothing have shut 26 stores as the search for a buyer continues after the popular women’s clothing company went into administration.

Cue Clothing Co, which is behind Cue and Veronika Maine, collapsed into voluntary administration in September, with Kate Warwick and Vaughan Strawbridge of FTI Consulting tasked with finding a buyer as receivers and managers.

While the receivers confirmed they had created a shortlist of potential buyers, more than half of its 46 stores will be closed, in addition to five store closures announced shortly after the company went into administration.

“There is a common group of stores parties have indicated they would not be seeking to continue with. As a result, 26 stores will be closed across both brands,” a statement from FTI Consulting on Thursday said.

“A store closure program will commence this week on Thursday 15 October 2026. The timing of closures will vary by store and will largely depend on stock levels.”

The statement clarified they were no planned job losses, with the receivers clarifying they intended to redeploy employees to other stores “where possible”.

It was not announced which specific stores would be closed as part of the measures.

After the September closures, Cue and Veronika Maine operated 46 stores across Australia and New Zealand, though this number will now be halved once the current closure process is complete.

The receivers also provided an update on the sale process, which has been ongoing since the administration was announced.

“Non-Binding Indicative Offers have been received and a small number of selected bidders have been shortlisted,” the statement said.

“There are still a number of commercial and transaction matters being worked through with the shortlisted parties.”

It was founded in 1968 by Rod Levis in Sydney, and quickly grew into a household name when it expanded into Myer department stores.

In 1998, Cue launched its sister brand, Veronika Maine, as a softer alternative to Cue’s sharp tailoring, made in the same Sydney studio.

After more than 50 years as a family-owned business, the company was sold to UK investment firm Hilco Capital in 2025, which put both brands up for sale in August 2026.
