Craig Kelly and Tanya Plibersek face off in Parliament House

Labor frontbencher Tanya Plibersek has had a heated confrontation with controversial Liberal MP Craig Kelly in the corridors of Parliament House.

The two politicians were surrounded by cameras and microphones as they faced off, moments before Mr Kelly was scheduled for an interview on Today.

The MP from Sydney's south was later brought into the prime minister's office for a dressing down.

Scott Morrison has reportedly told Mr Kelly to stop pushing views contrary to accepted medical advice, and that his comments were having a negative impact on the government's vaccine strategy.

Mr Kelly later released a statement about the meeting.

"The Prime Minister reinforced the importance of ensuring public confidence in the Government's vaccine strategy," he said.

"I have agreed to support the Government's vaccine rollout which has been endorsed by medical experts.

"I have always sought to support the success of our nation's public health response during the pandemic.

"I believe that the spread of misinformation can damage the success of our public health response during the pandemic."

During the confrontation, Ms Plibersek accused Mr Kelly of "spreading these crazy conspiracy theories".

"My mum lives in your electorate, and I don't want her exposed to people who are not going to be vaccinated because of your crazy conspiracy theories," she said.

Mr Kelly replied: "You are the one doing that, because you are the one spreading misinformation."

"Listen to our most senior immunologist."

Ms Plibersek asked Mr Kelly if he thought the Prime Minister was wrong on coronavirus.

Mr Kelly said no.

"He agrees with you? Scott Morrison agrees with you, Craig?" Ms Plibersek said.

Mr Kelly said the Labor Party was spreading "smear and slime and innuendo".

"We're supporting what the government is saying," Ms Plibersek said.

"I agree with your prime minister and your health minister."

Mr Kelly then headed into the Channel 9 studio for his Today interview.

Yesterday 9News reported that Scott Morrison told Mr Kelly he was unimpressed with the medical advice he had been posting on Facebook.

Mr Kelly has no medical or scientific training.

He came under fire this week for appearing on a podcast hosted by celebrity chef-turned-conspiracy theorist Pete Evans.

Mr Kelly defended appearing on Evans' podcast, describing the former celebrity chef as a "victim of cancel culture".

"If we were to have a society where we refused to discuss or talk to people who made a silly comment at one stage, what kind of society would we have?" he told 9news.com.au.

"I seriously disagree that some things the ABC has said. But does that mean I don't speak to the ABC?

"I could go through that things that have been put to air on the ABC, and to defeat those ideas is not to censor them but to bring them out to public and show that they are wrong.

"The idea that we cancel this person from society, that is a stain on our democracy."

When pressed on Mr Kelly's behaviour, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told the National Press Club on Monday: "We've been very clear to point out where you get your information from.

"You don't get it from Facebook. You get it from official government websites.

"(Mr Kelly's) not my doctor and he's not yours. But he does a great job in Hughes."

Labor's communications spokesman Tim Watts said Mr Kelly's beliefs were not something "that should be laughed off".

"Craig Kelly's Facebook page was shared 10 times more than the Commonwealth Department of Health Facebook page since the start of this pandemic," Mr Watts said.

"This is something that is having a real impact in the community."
