West Australians over 60 to be made eligible for Pfizer from Monday

Western Australians aged over 60 who have not received a vaccine will be able to get Pfizer jabs from next month.

Previously they were only available for AstraZeneca.

Those who have received a first dose of AstraZeneca will not be able to get a Pfizer jab.

"We want to get these numbers up, and ensure they get vaccinated as a priority," Premier Mark McGowan said.

"People in this age group, 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond, because they are more vulnerable to death or illness.

"This is our way out of pandemic."

WA Health Minister Roger Cook said "time was of the essence" when it came to getting the whole state vaccinated.

"There's a growing expectation that Delta will at some point come into the state of Western Australia," he said.

"The best way we can prepare for that day is to make sure that everyone does the right thing to get themselves vaccinated."

More than 2.1 million doses have been administered overall in the state.

Western Australia just made Pfizer vaccines available for children over the age of 12.

No new cases have been reported in WA in the past 24 hours.
