Victoria records 45 new coronavirus cases and five deaths

Victoria has recorded a spike in coronavirus cases with 45 new infections as the state hits a grim new milestone of over 20,000 cases.

A further five people have died of COVID-19 overnight.

Victoria's five new fatalities include three men aged in their 50s, 70s and 80s and two women in their 90s.

All of the deaths were linked to aged care outbreaks.

A total of 20,015 coronavirus cases have now been recorded in Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed 32 of the 45 were linked to outbreaks and complex cases, with 13 under investigation and three cases reclassified.

There are 90 Victorians in hospital, including 11 in intensive care and seven people on a ventilator.

Mr Andrews today urged Victorians to get tested for COVID-19 as soon as they develop symptoms.

"We, again, urge all Victorians, no matter how mild your symptoms, as soon as the symptoms are noticeable to you, then please go and get tested," he said.

"Don't wait a day. Don't wait two days. Don't wait until Monday."

Victoria's COVID-19 death toll has risen to 750 fatalities.

New case in regional Victoria

There is just one new COVID-19 case in regional Victoria, believed to be in the Geelong corridor.

The state has 4272 cases with an unknown source.

There are now 920 active cases in Victoria, with 140 being healthcare workers.

Metropolitan Melbourne's rolling 14-day average sits at 42.7 cases, with 73 infections linked to an unknown source.

While regional Victoria's average is 2.3, with zero mystery cases.

•    219 cases have been linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care in Epping

•    215 cases have been linked to St Basil's Homes for the Aged in Fawkner

•    166 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Ardeer

•    140 cases have been linked to Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes in Kilsyth

•    130 cases have been linked to BlueCross Ruckers Hill Aged Care Facility in Northcote

•    128 cases have been linked to Twin Parks Aged Care in Reservoir

•    124 cases have been linked to Cumberland Manor Aged Care Facility in Sunshine North

•    119 cases have been linked to Japara Goonawarra Aged Care Facility in Sunbury

•    119 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Heidelberg

Outbreaks with the highest number of active cases:

•  30 active cases are currently linked to the Casey community outbreak (total cases: 34)

•     13 active cases are currently linked to Footscray Hospital (total cases: 15)

•     9 active cases are currently linked to Vawdrey Australia Truck Manufacturer (total cases: 64)

•     6 active cases are currently linked to Bulla Dairy Foods in Colac (total cases: 20)

•     6 active cases are currently linked to Dandenong Police Station (total cases: 17)

•     6 active cases are currently linked to Wydinia Kindergarten in Colac (total cases: 16)

The department is also investigating cases linked to Commercial Fitout Solutions in Eltham. 

Family cluster behind 34 new cases

Residents in Melbourne's outer south-east who allegedly breached lockdown restrictions by visiting family and travelling outside of their 5km radius have sparked a major coronavirus outbreak.

There have now been 34 cases detected across five households.

The residents mingled with households across Hallam, Clyde, Narre Warren South and Cranbourne North, driving an outbreak in the city's south-east which has seen cases spread to Dandenong Police Station and other industrial work sites.

"The five houses in this particular cluster have had, unfortunately, some members of those households visiting other households," Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 testing commander Jeroen Weimar said.

"It is that limited amount of contact, relatively infrequent contact between these five households that has now meant that we have 34 people in five houses experiencing or living with a very real threat of the coronavirus."

The first cases linked to the family cluster were identified on September 4, with a "significant and painstaking" contract-tracing exercise underway.

An incident management team has been set up, with Monash Health and councils City of Dandenong and City of Casey assisting authorities working on the ground to build a "clear picture" on the spread of the virus.

"We have had a series of deep and ongoing conversations with community members and leaders across that wider Casey and Dandenong area," Mr Weimar said.

Additional pop-up testing sites set up

An additional four pop-up testing sites have been set up in the Casey and Dandenong area, with anyone with the mildest of symptoms urged to get tested.

Three of the new testing sites were established on Tuesday, with the fourth centre launched today at the Dandenong market.

A total of 4228 people were tested last week in the area, following the premier's plea to contain the spread of the virus in the city's outer south-east.

"If you feel remote symptoms, in the Casey and Dandenong area, we really want you to come forward and get tested," Mr Weimar said.
