High-risk Year 12 students to be vaccinated as wider cohort returns to classrooms

Students in Year 12 will be able to return to school in just over a fortnight, with pupils in the epicentre of the outbreak to be vaccinated.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced today that Year 12 will return to classrooms on August 16.

Students from the high risk local government areas of Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown, Liverpool, Cumberland and Blacktown with Parramatta, George's River and Campbelltown will be "subject to a Pfizer vaccination program".

"Those vaccines will be taken from regional areas to ensure the Year 12 students can get the vaccines," Ms Berejiklian said.

For everyone else, home learning will continue for at least the next four weeks in line with Greater Sydney's extended lockdown.

The announcement came as NSW recorded 177 new COVID-19 cases.
