Border bubble returns for northern NSW residents as school closes amid outbreak
Queensland has today eased COVID-19 restrictions with six northern New South Wales local government areas (LGAs), putting them back into the border bubble.
It comes as at least one student at a high school in Ballina tested positive to COVID-19, with reports two more have also been infected with the virus.
Starting from 1am, residents from communities such as Broken Hill, Lismore and Bourke Shire are permitted to cross the border for essential reasons including work and schooling.
The NSW residents must have at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination.

"This will mean Queenslanders travelling to, and residents of, Bourke Shire, City of Broken Hill, Kyogle, Lismore City, Richmond Valley, and the unincorporated Far West will be able to cross the border for more reasons," Queensland Health said in a statement.
People in a non-restricted LGA in the NSW border zone are permitted to cross the border to buy food or other essential goods, access medical care, or attend school.
Meanwhile, all students and teachers at Ballina Coast High School have been told to isolate until they receive further advice after at least one member of its community tested positive.
Parents were informed of the infection in a letter from the school.
There are reports two other students have now been infected, however NSW Health is yet to confirm any of the cases.
The school will remain closed today for cleaning.
Passengers on a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Sydney have also been forced into isolation after a traveller tested positive for COVID-19.
NSW Health has confirmed today people on board QF509 on Saturday, October 9, are considered close contacts.

More than 20 Bunnings stores across Queensland will begin offering COVID-19 vaccines as the state government rushes to increase the number of residents who have received the jab.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that from this Saturday, 23 Bunnings stores will host pop-up vaccination clinics that will allow customers to walk in and receive a dose.
Currently just over 70 per cent of eligible Queenslanders have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with 52.7 per cent now fully vaccinated.
