Queensland pharmacies to be equipped to conduct COVID-19 testing as Premier issues sobering warning

Pharmacies have been added to the list of places where Queenslanders can get tested for COVID-19 as the Premier issued a sobering warning in light of New Zealand's fresh outbreak.

Overnight there were no new cases of coronavirus in Queensland but Annastacia Palaszczuk told State Parliament her government was ready to respond if an outbreak were to occur in Queensland.

"This battle isn't over - New Zealand has discovered that sad fact," she said.

"Suddenly, after 102 days of being COVID-free, four members of one family have tested positive without any clue how they could have got it.

"It means restrictions have returned in New Zealand.

"We have two enemies in this pandemic.

"The first is the virus itself - it is unpredictable, and it kills.

"The second enemy is complacency."

Ms Palaszczuk announced a new trial which will see pharmacies added to the places where Queenslanders could be tested for COVID-19.

"Often pharmacies are the first place people with symptoms will seek treatment," she said.

"It makes sense to be able to offer these people tests. It is another way we are keeping Queenslanders safe."

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed four new cases of coronavirus, the country's first in 102 days.

The infected people are from the same family in south Auckland and the source of their infection is unknown.

Ms Ardern said Auckland would now move to level three restrictions for three days as a "precautionary approach", while level two restrictions would be imposed in the rest of the country

Meanwhile Queensland Police are investigating the Caxton Hotel for its potential involvement in concealing NRL legend Allan 'Alfie' Langer's birthday function.

9News understands the hotel is accused of switching off the CCTV cameras and ID scanners during the hours that Mr Langer and two other Brisbane Broncos staff members were on the premises.

Such actions would put the pub in breach of its license, resulting in potential fines.
