Coronavirus Victoria: Kyabram healthcare workers test positive, tradie positive at Melbourne school

The Department of Health is investigating an emerging coronavirus cluster after two more healthcare workers tested positive to the virus in Victoria's north.

Two frontline workers at Kyabram District Health Service have been diagnosed with COVID-19, bringing the total number of infected staff to three.

Deputy Chief Health Officer, Dr Annaliese van Diemen, said the healthcare workers had not been at work during the infectious period.

"We are doing an ongoing investigation in regards to sources," she said.

Kyabram District Heath Service on its website stated the two staff members were detected as positive after all employees were required to undertake COVID-19 testing on Monday.

"Two staff members have returned COVID-19 positive swabs," the statement read.

"One staff member has not worked at Kyabram District Health Service (KDHS) for 11 days and the other for more than 14 days. They are both isolating at home."

All residents returned negative tests. Contract tracing was being undertaken in consultation with the Department of Health.

"Whilst we understand this news will cause anxiety in our community please be assured our priority is the health and wellbeing of residents, patients, staff, VMOs and our community."

Victoria has recorded eight new cases of coronavirus overnight, which include one new case and two further infections linked to the Cedar Meats outbreak, the two healthcare workers, as well as a construction worker at school in Melbourne's south-east.

There are a further four cases which are under investigation and one case has been reclassified interstate, taking the state's total to 1580.

There are 10 people in hospital, including five patients in intensive care.

A total of 166 cases may have been acquired through community transmission.

Dr van Diemen said she did not believe there was a link between the McDonald's and Cedar Meat clusters but confirmed the infected Myer employee and the meat plant outbreak were connected.

"There is a link between the Cedar Meats and the Myer, certainly," she said.

The meat plant's cluster has risen to a total of 103 infections, made up of 64 staff and 39 external to the facility.

Tradie tests positive to coronavirus at Melbourne school

Students at a private secondary school in Melbourne's south-east have been sent home after an onsite construction worker tested positive to coronavirus.

The ADCO subcontractor was employed for renovations at St Leonard's College in Brighton and was tested last week.

There were a handful of students on campus at the time. They have all been sent home.

ADCO Constructions CEO Neil Harding confirmed the diagnosis in a statement today.

"ADCO can confirm that a subcontractor employed on our St Leonard's College, Brighton construction site has returned a positive test for COVID-19," he said.

"Our understanding is the worker was asymptomatic at the time of testing.

"As a result, the worker is no longer on site and has been directed to follow appropriate medical advice, in accordance with Australian Government guidelines."

The Department of Heath is working with the worker, their direct employer and ADCO to identify close contacts, which may include two other workers on the project site.

The construction site has been closed temporarily while sanitisation is complete. Works are expected to recommence tomorrow.
