Aussie pioneer singer and songwriter Col Joye dead at 89
Australian singer and songwriter Col Joye has died at the age of 89.
Joye, born Colin Frederick Jacobsen, began his career in the late 1950s and spanned almost 70 years, and became a pioneer of the Aussie rock and roll scene.
He was the first Aussie rock and roll singer to have a number one record Australia-wide with his hit single "Oh Yeah Uh Huh".

Joye also appeared regularly on the television show Bandstand, which began broadcasting in 1958; during the 1960s he toured in Vietnam to entertain Australian soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War.
He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1988 for his services to Australian music, which also included starting the record company ATA Studios, which was based in Sydney.
Joye also overcame health struggles which came after a serious fall in 1990; he fell into a coma and was given a poor prognosis, but he ended up making a full recovery.
