Coalition MPs take swipe at government

A coalition-controlled parliamentary committee has criticised the government's response to its report on crimes at sea.

The House of Representatives standing committee on social policy and legal affairs, on which six coalition MPs serve, says the government has not sufficiently explained why it rejected recommendations that included providing statistics on maritime crimes and the compulsory reporting of crime.

The committee is hoping the government will take heed of a second report it has released.
