COAG might approve national DVO laws

Domestic violence victims who flee partners in one state could be protected in another under changes likely to be approved by the country's leaders.

"There should be nowhere in Australia that a woman and her children need to hide as a result of domestic violence," the minister assisting the prime minister for women Michaelia Cash told ABC TV on Thursday ahead of a Council of Australian Governments meeting in Canberra on Friday.

The federal government wants a legal framework in place by the end of the year to make domestic violence orders enforceable across states, arguing the time had come for action.
