Clear path for Vic air ambulance

Pilots in emergency helicopters will be able to fly the most direct route when transporting patients to six Victorian hospitals, under new planning controls.

Flight paths have been secured to and from the Warragul, Frankston, Alfred, Royal Children's and Royal Melbourne hospitals and the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton.

The new planning controls will allow the emergency helicopters to maintain a straight flight path, avoiding curved flight paths which can disrupt patients and the staff caring for them.

Planning Minister Richard Wynne said the controls were necessary to deal with new buildings in Melbourne.

"While that's great for our development industry, we need to make sure new development is properly considered to minimise negative impacts around surrounding areas," he said on Sunday.
