Man charged over Melbourne worksite shooting

An 89-year-old man has faced court after allegedly shooting a disgruntled business associate at a skip bin yard in Melbourne's west yesterday.

Paul Minnici, allegedly armed with a gun - and a walking stick - drove a white van into the Rebecca Drive worksite and fired two shots towards a truck driver delivering a skip bin at his Ravenhall yard.

The 89-year-old Ravenhall man appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court last night, charged with intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, conduct endangering death and numerous other charges.

He did not apply for bail.

Police were yesterday probing whether the violent outburst was triggered by an unpaid bill.

Detectives alleged the 89-year-old waited inside his van before confronting a 60-year-old associate, arguing briefly before allegedly pulling the trigger twice.

A colleague then stepped in, wrestling the gun from the 89-year-old, keeping him in sight until police arrived.

9News understands the argument started when the truck driver arrived with a load of rubbish that he'd previously cleared from the property.

The injured man has undergone surgery after being taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Minnici will return to court tomorrow.
