Man accused of flatmate's murder 'refuses police forensic procedure'

A man accused of murdering his female flatmate didn't come up from the cells when his case was mentioned in a Sydney court this afternoon.

Shou Dong, 19, is accused of murdering Qi Yu, 28, whom he allegedly rented a room from in Campsie.

Burwood Court today heard the accused hasn't consented to police carrying out a forensic procedure.

Police said his refusal is "setting the matter back a substantial amount in relation to DNA evidence".

That part of the case will be back in Burwood Court next month.

Ms Yu, a 28-year-old student from China, was last seen on June 8 at her share house on Loch Street.

She had just spoken with her family in China before her friends found her room empty the following morning and reported her missing.

Her mother flew in from China to help with the search.

Over the weekend, Ms Yu's white 2016 Toyota Corolla was found dumped on Lindsay Street in Burwood, around four kilometres away from her home.

Police have still been unable to locate a body.

The murder case will be mentioned in court again on August 15.
