Police investigate seat restraints in crash that left girl fighting for life, boy seriously injured
Police are investigating whether two children were properly restrained when they suffered serious injuries in a two-car collision in Melbourne overnight.
A family of four were travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla at the intersection of High Street and Wallace Roads in Wantirna South about 8.20pm when the female driver of the Corolla allegedly did not give way and the car collided with a grey Nissan Skyline.
An 11-year-old girl in the Corolla was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A four-year-old boy in the Corolla was also taken to the Royal Children's Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The childrens' mother, a 38-year-old Knoxfield woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Their father, a 38-year-old Knoxfield man, was uninjured.

"It's an absolute tragic collision, I'm sure it will be tragic for the families," Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill said.
The two male occupants of the Nissan, who stopped at the scene, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
Major collision detectives will investigate whether the children were properly restrained at the time of the crash, police said.
"Please make sure your children are properly restrained in appropriate restraints in the back seat," Hill said.
"They are in your hands and hopefully we can avoid another tragedy like this."
The investigation remains under way.
