Woman released from custody after baby found dead in NSW home

A woman has been released without charge after her arrest following the discovery of an infant's body inside a house in the New South Wales southern district of Murray River.

Police attended a house in Corowa at about 10pm overnight, due to a concern for welfare and found the body of a child.

The three-month-old baby was wrapped in plastic inside a freezer, it has been reported.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested, and had been assisting with inquiries.

NSW Police said she was later released, pending further investigation.

Local detectives with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad have established Strike Force Walumil to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is continuing.
