Charlie Sheen makes up for footballer's bad tip

Charlie Sheen has waded into a spat between a restaurant and a high profile football player over a 20 cent tip left on a $60 dinner bill.

Philadelphia Eagles player LeSean McCoy has been slammed after a waiter at hamburger restaurant PYT tweeted a photo of the bill, showing the 20c tip on the $61.56 bill.

Since then McCoy and the eatery's owner have been trading versions of events leading to the stingy tip.

Now the former Two and a Half Men star has announced who he is siding with, writing on Twitter he will send $1000 cash over to the waiter.

"Dear Tommy Up at PYT in Philly. Please tell Rob K I'm pledging 1000 dollars to him for the tip debacle just wanna help. c #NoJudgement," he wrote.

After the waiter was widely criticised for posting the bill online, PYT's owner sided with his employee and accused McCoy of behaving badly.

"They were given excellent service. Impeccable service. If anything, our server was a little nervous as was our food runner, because they are big, big fans," he wrote on Facebook.

"(McCoy) and his group, from the moment they sat down, were verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways."

But the waiter also admitted to "messing up McCoy's appetiser order".

Sports reporter for the Philadelphia Daily News said McCoy was "really ticked" about the service.

"It's bulls---, man," McCoy was quoted as saying.

Diners in America are typically expected to tip between 15 and 20 percent to waitstaff, who are frequently paid less than the $7.25 minimum wage.

McCoy is currently signed to the Philadelphia Eagles on a $45 million five-year contract.
