Liberal frontbenchers have rallied behind Prime Minister Tony Abbott amid concerns about his leadership.
Mr Abbott faces unrest within the coalition over his handling of changes to Medicare and universities and the government's inability to pitch the policies to the public.
Coalition MPs who have been in their electorates during the summer break say the budget measures remain unpopular and many point the finger at Mr Abbott's inability to communicate the government's message.
Mr Abbott has sounded a warning to his colleagues that changing leaders is no solution.
"You rally behind someone and you stick to the plan and we've got a good plan ... there's a lot more to be done, but we are on the right track."
Government Senate leader Eric Abetz says he has full confidence in Mr Abbott, who is doing a "magnificent job".
Environment Minister Greg Hunt says he supports the prime minister "100 per cent, categorically and absolutely".
"You can always be stronger and better, but this is immensely important stuff and there is a complete sense of personal and team support."
