Central Queensland still without power following Cyclone Marcia

Electricity remains the biggest problem in Central Queensland, with more than 900 people working to reconnect homes in the wake of Cyclone Marcia.

Most of Rockhampton is expected to have power fully restored by next Monday, but it is a fluid timeline with the vast amount of work to be done.

Progress has been made with power restored to hospitals and some supermarkets, but their work has been hampered by a selfish few who have stolen generators powering traffic lights.

Mike Condon from Queensland Police said it is frustrating because the generators are put in place for the safety of the entire community.

"So far we're lucky we haven't had any serious accidents, but this is the stupidity of people," he said.

Small signs of normality are appearing with a few schools opened today. All schools are expected to be open by the end of the week.

With most debris cleared, damage can now be assessed with the focus shifting to rebuilding.

Insurance companies have set up mobile offices to speed up the claims process.

Rural areas have also been hit especially hard. In Yeppoon, business owners are not only cleaning up the damage, but counting the cost to their livelihoods.
