Calls for new Crocodile Dundee film to be made

Australians have been teased for weeks with short clips of what seemed to be a new Crocodile Dundee movie.

The series of trailers featured some of Austalia's most tresured Hollywood exports, with not one but two Hemsworths, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and the Territory's own, Jessica Mauboy, making an appearance.

Over the last two weeks, the short clips drew in around three billion people, gaining momentum as nearly 4000 news stories covered the star-studded "reboot".

But as the trailer aired at the Super Bowl today, we learned it was all just a very clever marketing ploy by Tourism Australia, trying to bring visitors to the outback.

There's no doubt the ad will have an impact, but for Territorians, it's not enough.

The NT News has launched their #BringBackDundee campaign, complete with an online petition to get Paul Hogan on board with a real reboot.

"We want to get #BringBackDundee happening and make sure this movie gets made because I think it would be wonderful for the Territory and also Australia," NT News Editor Matt Williams said.

Northern Territory Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss, says if a movie were to be made, there's no other place it could be shot.

"Everyone knows the Northern Territory is the real outback. This is the place where if you want to go and have those raw experiences... This is the only place you could really do that," she said.
