A teacher has been charged after allegedly using his car to try and run over students in Sydney's southwest.

Police allege the students were playing basketball at a school in Cabramatta at 3.20pm yesterday, when they had to duck out of the way to avoid being hit by the car.

The teacher was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court next Thursday.
