'Record' number of homes taken to auction over Easter

A record number of homes were taken to auction across capital cities over the weekend, which contributed to "the busiest Easter on record".

That's according to CoreLogic figures, which revealed 874 homes were up for auction, with 760 results collected and a preliminary clearance rate of 79.4 per cent.

The previous week saw 3840 homes taken to auction across the combined capitals, returning the highest final clearance rate on record at 83.1 per cent.

Melbourne saw 216 homes taken to auction in the week ending April 4, down from 1929 over the previous week.

Of the 170 results collected so far, 75.3 per cent were successful, down from a final clearance rate of 81.0 per cent the previous week.

Sydney was host to 421 auctions during the week ending April 4, down from 1410 over the previous week.

Of the results collected so far, 85.9 per cent were successful, down from a final clearance rate of 87.6 per cent the previous week when volumes were significantly higher.

CoreLogic figures also revealed Canberra recorded the highest preliminary clearance rate with 93.8 per cent of the 48 reported auctions selling under the hammer.
