Fast-moving grass fire in Sydney's west contained

Firefighters have contained a "fast moving" grass fire in Penrith in Sydney's west.

The fire at Hickeys Lane sent plumes of smoke into the air, with large flames seen burning through greenery.

A water bombing helicopter was brought in and the Rural Fire Service helped Fire and Rescue NSW, with 17 trucks in attendance.

The fire was heading towards industrial premises on Coombes Drive, however, no evacuations have been needed and the fire is now under control, Fire and Rescue NSW said.

NSW RFS Superintendent Matt Waldon said it was "moving rather fast".

"We've had no structures lost or any injuries," Walton said.

There are no homes under threat in the area.

The fire is the size of around 12 hectares and has already burned through 30 hectares.

Crews are also tacking a fire in nearby Guilford which started in an abandoned property.

Fire and Rescue NSW said it is investigating.

Meanwhile, a fire in the rural area of Nymboida near Grafton in northern NSW continues to burn at emergency level.
