Reports two homes have been lost in Tasmanian bushfires, emergency warnings remain in place

There are reports at least two homes have been destroyed as a bushfire rages across Tasmania's north-west coast. 

Emergency warnings are in place for Temma, Arthur River and Nelson Bay. 

The Tasmania Fire Service has warned the 7000-hectare blaze is out-of-control and unpredictable, and that burning embers will further threaten homes. 

Heavy smoke and ash is also blanketing the area, with around 150 residents and fire crews forced to seek shelter on nearby beaches, according to The Mercury.

Local David Hardy, who was among those forced to shelter on a beach, told the ABC at least two homes had been destroyed. 

"It's absolute hell, you can't see 10 feet," he said. 

"When you can it's just an eerie pool of evil-looking smoke ... the firefighters, there's six of them here because one of the bridges has burnt out and they can't get reinforcements in."

The property losses are yet to be confirmed.

Authorities have advised people to avoid the bushfire-affected areas.
