Bushfire emergency warning downgraded for town north of Perth

An emergency bushfire warning for a small town north of Perth in Western Australia has been downgraded.

Emergency WA said the threat to Gingin, 67km north of Perth, had passed.

Earlier this afternoon, authorities said it was too late to leave the small town.

"A bushfire Emergency Warning is in place for people in the Gingin townsite near Gingin Brook in the Shire of Gingin," Emergency WA said.

"You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes.

"Homes near Weld Street are under threat by fire.

"The fire started near the intersection of Jones St and Roe St and is travelling in the Gingin Brook in Gingin.
