Two firefighters in hospital as blaze engulfs Queensland warehouse

Two female firefighters are in hospital, one in a critical condition, after a blaze engulfed a warehouse south of Brisbane.

Fire crews were called to the events business on the Pacific Highway at Slacks Creek about 2.20am.

A fire had broken out at the two-storey building.

Investigations are underway into what led to the two firefighters being injured. Officials said both had more than a decade's experienced.

One needed CPR after being rescued from the building, with both falling unconscious.

QFES Acting Commissioner Mike Wassing said it was "very rare" for firefighters to be hurt in this way.

Dr Stephen Rashford from Queensland Ambulances said it was "difficult to determine" what happened.

"It's difficult to determine, in a fire there are obviously noxious gases so probably a lack of oxygen and exposure to those gases.

"There didn't appear to be any major traumatic injuries to both firefighters luckily."

Chris Knight from Queensland Police said they were looking at a potential electrical issue.

"We do know that there was a power interruption over the last few days as a result of a power pole that's been knocked down," Knight said.

"There has been generated power over a period of time intermittently and all of those factors will be taken into consideration."

Residents in the surrounding areas, including Springwood, were warned to close their windows due to the smoke.

There were 13 crews and 45 firefighters called, along with ambulance and police.
