An elderly man was carjacked north of Brisbane this morning by a thief posing as a Good Samaritan.

The 71-year-old was hitching a trailer in his front yard in Judith Street, Morayfield about 7am when he was approached by a man who offered to help before stealing his Commodore.

“It's pretty disheartening you know? That there's people like that who have no consideration for human values at all,” Ted van Ginneken said.

“I got my hand on the car and that's about it. He just screamed down the street, you can see the tyre marks.”

The car was later found abandoned.

Neighbours told 9News the street is notorious for trouble and police are called about twice a week.

“It’s been going on for a while. We’d like to move out but can’t afford to,” he said.
