Queensland government unveils plans for Brisbane's first high-rise school

Parents and prospective students have been given a glimpse of Brisbane's first high-rise high school. 

The Queensland government today unveiled its plans for the new Inner City North State Secondary College. 

Parents and future students flocked to the Holy Trinity Church Hall at Fortitude Valley to get the first glimpse. 

"We're really supportive of new designs and modern living and the vertical school. But we just want to make sure they've got adequate green space" parent, Debra Venables, said. 

The design is a for a seven-storey space-saving facility that can cater for up to 1500 students. 

It features a performing arts centre, sports centre and playing field alongside the vertical school 

The college will be built on Brookes Street at the old Fortitude Valley State School, which closed its doors in December 2013. But the inner city is now desperate for more classrooms.

Nearby Kelvin Grove State College is currently accommodating more than 3000 students - 500 over capacity. 

"There's overcrowding at all the inner city schools, so we've been pushing for this for a very long time" parent Kirsten Lovejoy said. 

The school will be one of two popping up in Brisbane's inner suburbs, but the government remains tight-lipped on the location for the Inner South State Secondary College. 

"We are now, with the Department, working through all those submissions... and will hopefully be able to land something very soon" Education Minister Grace Grace said. 

Construction at Fortitude Valley will start later this year.

The catchment boundaries have yet to be revealed.
