Brisbane boosts security ahead of G20 conference

A new Water Police vessel will patrol the Brisbane River, it has been revealed as Queensland prepares for the G20.

The boat forms part of the new suite of security measures for Brisbane ahead of the conference, which will see world leaders descend on the city.

Overnight, bins across Southbank were temporarily removed and the Brisbane Convention Centre is now under 24-hour police guard.

By Saturday it will become the first restricted zone and blocked by close to 3km of barricades.

Water Police will be equipped with a high-tech command post, named for Constable Brett Irwin who died in the line of duty in 2007.
