Bravehearts founder launches Senate tilt

High-profile child protection advocate Hetty Johnston has launched a bid to become an independent senator pushing for a royal commission into the family law system.

The Bravehearts founder said she wanted to enter federal parliament as a Queensland senator after 22 years of campaigning for children's issues.

"If I get myself in that place, if my butt hits that leather, the dust won't settle for six years because I am determined to make a difference," Ms Johnston told Nine's Today program on Wednesday.

She has previously tried to enter state and federal politics as both an independent and for the Democrats.

"This time I have a lot of professionals around me to help me and a little bit of financial backing. That makes all the difference."
