Police say tattooed man's body that washed up on Gold Coast not suspicious

The death of a heavily tattooed man whose body washed up on South Stradbroke Island is not being treated as suspicious, police say.

The body, clad only in black pants, was discovered by a park ranger about 7.30am on Sunday on the ocean side of the island, about 5km north of the Gold Coast seaway.

Police said it appeared the man had been dead for at least five days.

The cause of death is yet to be determined, but a police spokesperson told AAP on Tuesday that it "doesn't appear to be suspicious".

Investigations are continuing to determine the man's identity.
