Cleaned out: Woman charged for stealing $100,000 of jewellery from elderly clients

A cleaner has been charged with the theft of more than $100,000 worth of jewellery taken from the homes of her elderly clients in Sydney’s west.

The 52-year-old woman had been employed for two years as a residential aged home care cleaner working across numerous locations in Sydney’s West and the Blue Mountains.

On December 6 last week she is accused of stealing a gold and sapphire ring from the St Clair home of an 81-year-old woman which she was cleaning.

That same day it is alleged she attended a 72-year-old woman’s home at Wentworth Falls to clean, where she stole jewellery worth more than $100,000.

Yesterday morning the woman attended a pawn shop in Penrith and sold a number of reported items.

Later that day police swooped on the cleaner’s home in Hebersham, 47 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD.

During a search of her home officers located 50 other items of jewellery suspected to have been stolen over a two-year period from elderly cleaning clients.

The woman was charged with two counts of larceny relating to the thefts and was conditionally bailed to appear at Mt Druitt Local court on Wednesday January 16.

Police are currently trying to reunite the pieces of stolen jewellery with their rightful owners.
