Bikie-linked fire 'deliberately lit'

A fire at a Nomads outlaw motorcycle club house in NSW was deliberately lit, witnesses say.

Neighbours say they heard voices outside the Byron Bay building, shortly before it caught fire at 3.35am (AEDT).

The fire damaged two other buildings, including a sign writing shop.

"It's basically been started by putting a whole heap of magazines and books, and then using accelerant, probably petrol, to light the front of the Nomads club up," NSW Fire commander Phil Sheedy told Macquarie Radio.

"Unfortunately a sign writing business and a storage facility were completely destroyed by fire."

Forensic specialists are expected to examine the building once it is declared safe to enter.

Based on the southern end of Queensland's Gold Coast, the Nomads also have a presence over the border in Byron Bay.
