Recall for $400,000 Bentley SUVs due to fire risk

Luxury car maker Bentley has recalled 16 of its Bentayga Hybrid vehicles sold in Australia over an electrical fault that risks sparking a fire.

The recall notice lodged with the Department of Infrastructure says the high-voltage battery may discharge while charging the $400,000 SUVs due to a hardware defect.

"If this occurs, it could overheat leading to a vehicle fire," the recall reads.

"A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property."

Bentley Motors will contact owners of affected vehicles asking them to arrange an appointment with their authorised dealer as soon as possible to have the vehicle software updated, free of charge.

Owners can continue to drive them.
