Beheading plot recalls UK street attack

HOW HOME-GROWN TERRORISTS KILLED SOLDIER LEE RIGBY IN A LONDON STREET

* Fusilier Lee Rigby, 25, was hacked to death by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale in a street outside his London army barracks in May, 2013

* Adebolajo, 28, and Adebowale, 22, ran Mr Rigby down in a car

* They dragged his unconscious body into the road before attacking with knives and a meat cleaver, attempting to decapitate him in front of onlookers

* Both attackers were raised by Nigerian Christians and converted to Islam in their teens

* Adebolajo was filmed after the attack waving a bloodied knife and meat cleaver. He claimed he had killed the soldier because British forces killed Muslims

* Both attempted to attack police with knives and a gun

* The pair were convicted of murder

* Adebowale's lawyer said they saw themselves as "soldiers of Islam"

* Adebolajo was sentenced to life

* Adebowale was jailed for 45 years
