Dozens mark Bali bombings anniversary at Sydney's Coogee beach
A memorial service has been held at Coogee, in Sydney's eastern suburbs to mark 19 years since the deadly 2002 attacks in the tourist district of Kuta, on the Indonesian island of Bali.
Over 200 people were killed in the Bali Bombings including 88 Australians, 20 of which were from the eastern suburbs, including six members of the Coogee Dolphins Rugby League club.
Randwick Council was able to hold the invitation-only event after NSW Health Minister Brad Hazard issued a special exemption to the state's COVID-19 public health orders.

Despite the wet weather, more than 100 family, friends and local community members attended the service.
Attendees had to be double vaccinated and were required to wear a mask at all times.

To mark the Australians who lost their lives in the attack, 88 white doves were released.
Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said the event was "an enduring testament to the unity and the spirit of our local community."

"It's the resilience of the families and the friends and all of those who were touched that tragic day," Mr Parker said.
The memorial featured a sculpture by local artist Sasha Reid, depicting three interlinked cast-bronze shapes, symbolising life, growth, hope and the importance of strength in unity. Getty

Tonight, services will also be held at the site of the two bombings at the Sari Club and Paddy's Bar.
