Australian woman dies after plunging from cliff in Japan
A Melbourne woman had died after falling more than 40 metres from a cliff in Japan.
The 60-year-old was walking on the popular Kumano Kodo trail with a friend when she slipped on Friday.
The NHK news outlet reports the fire brigade was called to the scene just after midday. The woman was found unconscious about 40 metres below the cliff and was taken to hospital, but died about four hours later.

The UNESCO-listed Kumano Kodo is made up of several pilgrimage trails which crisscross the Kii Hantō, the largest Peninsula of JapanJapan.
The trails were originally built to help people move between three shrines, however some parts of the trails are dangerous with mountainous terrain.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing assistance to the family of a woman who died in Japan.
"Due to privacy reasons we are unable to provide further information," the spokesperson said in a statement.
