Australian sports broadcaster Norman May has died aged 88.
May died early this morning, his long-time ABC colleague Drew Morphett posted on Twitter.
May had a 35-year career as a sports broadcaster, which included commentating on 11 Olympic Games and 11 Commonwealth Games for the ABC.
"The amazing thing about Norman was that he had an encyclopaedic mind. He could just pull facts and figures out of anywhere,” former broadcaster Tracey Holmes told ABC News.
May was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1983 and an Australian Sports Medal in 2000. He was also awarded an Olympic Order that year.
He was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Game in 2004 and five years later was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
