Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe reports alleged theft to police

Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe has become the alleged victim of theft, according to 2GB Radio host Ben Fordham.

The five-time gold medalist attended Paddington Police Station and spoke to officers for a substantial period of time.

He has reportedly lost $150,000 in a home robbery. He attended the station to get a report number for his insurance claim.

The retired swimmers' manager, James Erskine, told 2GB that personal items, including watches and jewellery, were stolen from his home.

NSW Police confirmed that a 42-year-old man had attended Paddington Police Station to report an alleged theft at 4pm on Thursday.

"Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident," NSW Police said.

"There is no further information available at this time."

Thorpe's manager said the star had been talking to police about an "insurance job."

Thrope retired from swimming in 2006 at the age of 24.

He is one of the most decorated Australian Athletes.
