Trump calls Morrison to offer bushfire support

US President Donald Trump has called Prime Minister Scott Morrison to offer his support to Australia during the bushfire crisis.

The prime minister's office confirmed the phone call earlier today.

Mr Morrison thanked the president for the support already provided, especially the US firefighters who have flown out to battle the blazes.

He also thanked the president for the well wishes of the American people.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also sent a message of support.

"Our hearts go out to all those in Australia affected by these devastating fires," Mr Johnson said in a tweet this morning.

"We stand with you at this very difficult time."

The Prime Minister of Fiji also called today to offer his support and condolences.

"The prayers of the Fijian people are with the Australian families who have suffered the loss of loved ones and homes, businesses and property to the catastrophic bushfires," Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said.

And the Acting Prime Minister of Vanuatu pledged $250,000 in aid to help fight the fires.

"As a Pacific neighbour and friend, we have watched as Australia has been devastated by these horrific bushfires," Jotham Napat said.

"We offer whatever assistance we can in this time of need, as Australia has always done in ours."

It comes after Australia received a wave of support during the Golden Globes ceremony yesterday.
