Australia zapped with more than 1.1 million lightning strikes in 24 hours
They say lightning never strikes the same place twice, but yesterday the country was struck by lightning more than 1.1 million times.
Storms over Central Australia, Queensland and South Australia brought the thunder on Sunday, according to meteorology service Weatherzone's lightning tracker.
A staggering 719,068 lightning strikes occurred within 800 kilometres of Uluru, thanks to a massive band of storms.

South-east Queensland was hit by lightning 328,627 times yesterday, amid heavy rain and storms.
There were about 95,000 lightning strikes over northern Australia, where the wet season means this elevated storm is not uncommon.
"The most remarkable concentration of storm and lightning activity was in Central Australia and arid parts of South Australia and eastern WA, where any amount of lightning tends to be much less common," Weatherzone said.

Two separate troughs triggered the storms, one hovering over central Australia, with the other over eastern Australia.
The electrical activity comes as Queenslanders prepare for several more days of extreme weather, including thunderstorms and heatwaves.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a double warning today as severe storms and brutal heatwave conditions batter large parts of the state.
