The Bondi-founded womenswear brand told nine.com.au it had considered continuing trading before deciding the business was no longer viable.
In making the decision, it cited “rising operating costs, broader global economic pressures and significant changes across the international fashion and retail landscape.”
“Many of these factors have been outside our control and are being felt across the industry more broadly,” a company statement read.
Founded by Sue Di Chio in 2012, Suboo built an international following, with its designs worn by stars including Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Matilda Djerf, and Australian influencer Shani Grimmond.
It was stocked by major retailers including Barneys New York, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Shopbop, Revolve, Selfridges, David Jones and Bloomingdale’s.

“The retail environment today looks very different to the one in which Suboo was built.”
According to The Daily Telegraph, newly published documents show Suboo owes $105,162.50 to e-commerce financier Wayflyer and $140,232.89 to Shopify.
The publication also reported more than $239,000 in aged invoices, including $51,840.66 owed to garment producer Swell Ltd and $18,253.25 to Dongguan P&J Clothing Co Ltd.
DHL was reported to be owed $60,909.41, and FedEx was owed $58,299.49.
Suboo said customers were not left waiting on purchases when the company folded.
“Importantly, there are no outstanding unfulfilled customer orders. Throughout this period, customer obligations have continued to be managed to the best of the company’s ability”, a statement read.
The company has not revealed what could happen to the Suboo name or brand assets.

“In relation to the future of Suboo, we are not in a position to provide any further information at this point in time.
“If there are future developments regarding the brand, these will be communicated when appropriate.”
Suboo’s website is currently offline, with a message saying it is “undergoing website maintenance” and “will be back online soon”.
It’s the latest Australian fashion business to go under, after Cue Clothing Co, which owns Cue and Veronika Maine, entered receivership last month.
