A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly pinning another man between a car and a trailer in a beachside Adelaide suburb.

Police were called to a home on Morrow Road in O'Sullivan Beach about 5.30pm on Friday after reports of a man pouring "accelerant" on the property.

Police said the man living inside came out to confront the other man and the alleged offender jumped into a car and drove it towards the resident.

Firefighters were called in with heavy duty equipment to help free the homeowner before the injured man was treated by paramedics at the scene.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police yesterday arrested a 31-year-old man from Christie Downs and he was charged with attempted murder, endangering life and arson.

He was refused bail and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Nearby workers told 9News the alleged victim has lived in his home for around 10 years and is well liked in the community.

"He is a nice guy and to have this happen so close to Christmas is a travesty," local Paul Brown said.
