Assault charges against former NRL player Rhys Wesser dropped after alleged victim failed to appear in court

Assault charges have been dropped against former rugby league player Rhys Wesser.
Mr Wesser, 36, was facing two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm but they were withdrawn during a brief appearance at Newtown Local Court on Monday when the woman who made the allegations failed to appear.

Police had sought to adjourn the case but when their application was refused by Magistrate Margaret Quinn, the charges were withdrawn and Mr Wesser walked from court shortly after, refusing to comment.
